I Have a Dream...

Grade: 5th

Assignment: Write one sentence as a reaction to current newspaper articles

I have a dream...

I have a dream that there would be no more people dying or killing others and that people would help clean up the world to be a better place.

I have a dream that the world will stop killing people and stop wars.

I have a dream that everybody that lives on Earth would never fight so that we can live in peace.

I have a dream that for once in my young life I can wake up and walk outside without being afraid of someone getting me....oh how that would be so great.

Thanksgiving

Grade: 5th
Class: Labuda

Into the oven the turkey goes
I can smell the goodness with my nose

My grandma is making mashed potato
While my dad is cutting up tomatoes

From the corner of my eye
I spy a slice of pumpkin pie

DING goes the timer the turkey is done
We will sit down to eat and later have some fun

All the games that we will play
Revolve around Thanksgiving Day

To all that are happy
Have a joyful Thanksgiving---like me

I can't believe it's today
I can't believe its Thanksgiving Day
It is not a day to feel bad and grey
It is a day to give thanks and praise
So listen to what I have to say
The only way to have a perfect day
Is to should and scream "HOORAY"
Plus say things you have to say

Its a day to be happy and good
Not a day to be evil and rude
Don't have your mouth open while chewing food
Do not be in a bad mood
Down by the pond where I stood
A fish jumped out in a good mood
So be like the fish
and fulfill Thanksgiving wish.

Lual Remembers...

One day, I went to the jungle. I saw a tiger, but the tiger didn't see me. I saw the tiger. He was eating something. At first, I hid by the tree so he wouldn't see me. I was so scared. I saw a lion running toward me. The lion lunged at me and I fell to the ground. The lion jumped over me to eat the tiger. They were chasing each other. The lion wanted to eat the tiger, but the tiger didn't want to be eaten. When I saw them running away, I got up from the ground. I looked and a bird flew right into my hand. That bird became my friend.

My family was coming to the United States. My Mom told me, "W are leaving Africa." I was so sad because I would miss my bird. When I first came to America, I went to Prince Elementary School. I was in teh third grade. I had a neighbor who became my friend. Then we were moving again to Park Ave. I was going to the park with my brothers. We were riding bikes. I saw Holaway. It was a good school I came to Holaway in fourth grade. I liked my teacher and I liked all the students in my class. I saw two kids. Their names were Alex and Luis. those two students became my best friends.

I came to fifth grade with some students in my class. I take the bus every dasy. My teacher is a great teacher. She lets us play kickball every Friday. On Halloween day, we had a great party. We had popcorn and we watched a movie on the Smart Board. Our teacher said we have to do a word search and coloring. In the other room, I colored a monster. In my class, we were doing math and we had a contest to show our costume. There were three judges and the prize was a big, long candy. After that, we all thanked our principal because he let us have the party.

This Monday, we are going to a museum to see paintings and do activities. I am so excited about the trip. Then on April 18, we are going to Biztown. We have to sell some certificates to raise money for more field trips.

1) Q.Would you rather live in a beautiful house and have an ugly car or have an ugly house and beautiful car?

A. Oh that is easy! A beautiful house and an ugly car.

2) Q. Would you rather be gossiped about or never talked about at all? (no one knows you)

A. Well, since you put it that way...I rather be gossiped about!

3) Q. Would you rather always lose or never play?

A. Wow! (eyes blinking) That is a hard one. (sigh) I'd have to go with always lose.

4) Q. Would you rather have one wish now, or wait 10 years for 3 wishes?

A. (looks around) I think I'm going to have to wait 10 years for 3 wishes.

Interview pt. 2

Once we asked Mrs. Labuda a few silly questions.
1. Would you rather eat a bar of soap or drink the bottle of dish soap? She replied, “I’d rather eat a bar of soap.” According to her story she had experience from when she was little.
2. The second question we asked was, “Would you rather be called racist or be a traitor to your country?” She spent almost an hour thinking about it. Her answer was… she would rather be racist. (If I was the one answering that question I think I would take a long time too.)
3. Next question was… “Would you rather give up your daughter or husband?” She quickly said, “Husband.”
4. The fourth question was… “Would you rather watch a dog eat his own throw up or a baby throw up on you?!” She thought for a second… and replied, “I would rather watch a dog eat his own throw up.”
That was a lot of questions to ask Ms. Labuda. She really thought hard to answer them.

4th Grade

Assignment: Take a photo of "Fall" and write a reflection
Grade: 4th

Fall and Change

Fall is like a breath of fresh air,
Fall is a ball!
Fall is like a yellowish, redish, and orangish wonderland
fall is ball!
Fall is like dry leaves,
Fall is a ball!
Fall is full or change,
Fall I love, what a great thing!
fall is a ball
Fall is like a nice day outside,
Fall is a ball!

Changes

We took a picutre of a dead leaf, and then leaves from a tree that was green. The green leaves were much prettier, and had more excitement. The dead leaf didn't have any joy to it. In fall the leaves change colors to orange and yellow, maybe red. But in spring, the leaves stay on the trees, and they stay green. Evergreen trees stay green throughout the year.

Haunted Writings

Assignment: 1st person Halloween narrative
Grade: 5th

“Boo!” One of the big boys said at me as I walked past them. One shouted behind him, “Don’t get scared of the house on 31st street!” I’ve never been near that house because people go in and never come out. Today I was determined to go into that house. I started walking up the street and stopped at the gate that lead up the stairs to the scary house. I opened the gate, walked up the steps, and opened the door. I walked in and the first thing I saw was a big bag. I walked up to it and the door shut behind me. I ran back but it was locked. “Oh no,” I cried. “I’m locked in forever!”

Hi. My name is Chris. Today is Halloween and I’m trick or treating around the block. My parents told me not to go to the house at the end of the street. They said I should never go there. I’m not sure why. Who really cares?
Later on that night I walked around the block. I was wondering if the houses at the end of the street give out candy. I started walking to the end. I knocked but nobody answered. I knocked again and the door opened. Then I said, “Trick or treat!” I heard a woman’s voice say, “Happy Halloween.” I saw her. She was dressed like a witch.
Finally I walked home and told my dad that I went to the house at the end. They wanted to know how much candy I go from them. I told him around 20 pieces. Then they wanted to know how many total I had. I said, “120.”
I never got in trouble for visiting the house at the end of the street. I did get to eat a lot of candy!

Favorite Team

Assignment: Free writing
Grade: 5th
Class: Labuda

MY FAVORITE TEAM

MY favorite team is the PITTSBURGH STEELERS. Last year they won the super bowl against the Indianapolis Colts. The score was Colts 23 Steelers 42. My star last year was Jerome Bettis. This year is Ben Roethlisburger, Hines Ward and Troy Polomalu.
Troy’s sacks were 87 last year. He had about 4 or 5 sacks a game. Last year Jerome bettis and Hines Ward were the star players. This year I hope they make it to the playoffs.

Dear Dad

Assignment: Write a persuasive letter from a fictional story starter
Grade: 5th
Class: Labuda

Dear Dad,
I’m going to put this in the nicest way I can. You know how were moving to Alaska, well you must be off your rocker because if we move we will leave everyone we know and love. Besides, if we move I will be forced to start at a new school and you know how I feel about starting at a new school. Why do we have to move?
It’s so cold in Alaska. If we go fishing by the time we get there the fish will be frozen inside out. Please dad, I don’t want to move to Alaska because we both know we don’t want to leave our friends and family. Please think about it so you can make up your mind. If we do move don’t get up on the wrong side of the bed because it’s below zero in the morning because you already new it was coming.
You told me you’ve been there, you said it was beautiful there but it got chilly in the mornings. I’m not a cold person, remember? Ever sense I went outside to play in the snow that had fallen, my hand is numb just thinking about it. I can still remember my hands, ice cold, in the nice hot water you put them in. As the numbness slowly disappeared in my hands, they slowly came back to life. The blood in my hands started flowing again.
I guess there is one thing that’s good about moving to Alaska, we won’t sweat as much as we do here. It’s really hot in Tucson but it’s not hot in Alaska. Alaska has streams and big rivers; Tucson has not one stream or river. Alaska is not that bad but I still don’t want to move, do you really have to get that job?

Your disappointed daughter,
Chelsea
