Assignment: 1st person Halloween narrative
Grade: 5th
“Boo!” One of the big boys said at me as I walked past them. One shouted behind him, “Don’t get scared of the house on 31st street!” I’ve never been near that house because people go in and never come out. Today I was determined to go into that house. I started walking up the street and stopped at the gate that lead up the stairs to the scary house. I opened the gate, walked up the steps, and opened the door. I walked in and the first thing I saw was a big bag. I walked up to it and the door shut behind me. I ran back but it was locked. “Oh no,” I cried. “I’m locked in forever!”

Hi. My name is Chris. Today is Halloween and I’m trick or treating around the block. My parents told me not to go to the house at the end of the street. They said I should never go there. I’m not sure why. Who really cares?
Later on that night I walked around the block. I was wondering if the houses at the end of the street give out candy. I started walking to the end. I knocked but nobody answered. I knocked again and the door opened. Then I said, “Trick or treat!” I heard a woman’s voice say, “Happy Halloween.” I saw her. She was dressed like a witch.
Finally I walked home and told my dad that I went to the house at the end. They wanted to know how much candy I go from them. I told him around 20 pieces. Then they wanted to know how many total I had. I said, “120.”
I never got in trouble for visiting the house at the end of the street. I did get to eat a lot of candy!
